Kids Wheeled Backpacks

One item parents might want to consider buying is a kid’s wheeled backpack for their son or daughter.  It is not unusual for kids, especially younger ones, to acquire an injury from continued use of a backpack, even if the backpack is rarely over loaded.  Repetitive injury can happen when your child is constantly carrying a backpack daily to and from classes.  Many kids refuse to carry a backpack properly, such as strapped to both shoulders, and so risk these injuries.  A common symptom of backpack injury is numbness in the hands or arms.

Parents that are concerned can turn to buying a kid’s wheeled backpack for their child.  Doing so could very well prevent or end the repetitive injury that some kids are suffering, by relieving the stress of backpack weight on the back and shoulders.

Not sure what a wheeled backpack is?  It is a regular backpack that has a set of wheels on it, and a telescoping handle, so it can be pulled or pushed rather than carried.  Not all backpacks come in this style of course.  You have seen people wheeling luggage in and out of airports.  Kids wheeled backpacks are the same concept except they are lighter, have less durable wheels and are made out of knapsack materials. The beauty of a wheeled backpack is of course the idea of your kid not having to carry it all the time.

When buying a kid’s wheeled backpacks make sure you look for a few things.  Sometimes it will have to be carried, so make sure it has wide, padded, adjustable shoulder straps, a padded back and enough room and pockets for its intended use.  You wont want to get a huge backpack for a little kid, so check the sizing as well.

Check the zippers and overall quality to make sure it looks good.  How many pockets you will need in your backpack is up to you and your child.  The most durable backpack material is polyester or nylon.  Some knapsacks will be heavier than others, even when empty.  Don’t forget the inside pockets as well.  You will want to check those to make sure there are enough and of the right sizes.  You won’t want a punch of pockets that don’t seem to ever be used and you also don’t want just one huge pocket that your house key and every pencil can get lost in.

A common problem with kid’s wheeled backpacks is with using the telescoping handle.  Check it to make sure a kid can handle it and it seems durable.  The handle is known to get stuck or become difficult to operate, on many bags.  A molded grip is good as well, as it makes it easier for small hands to grab on quickly when trying to make the bus.   You may also want a padded top handle on your kid’s backpack for times when he or she just has to pick it up quick and put it in a locker. Using the telescoping handle for that makes it prone to break easily.

Kid’s wheeled backpacks can be a child’s and parents best friend when it comes to convenience, comfort and preventing potential long term injuries.
